2015 CCA Louisiana STAR has another record-breaking year
The 21st annual CCA Louisiana Statewide Tournament and Angler’s Rodeo presented by Chevron was record-breaking again this year with close to 13,000 participants, making it the largest in history.
The coveted STAR prize, a brand new Chevrolet Silverado, was snagged in the first weeks of the tournament by Baton Rouge’s Jonathan Craft. Craft caught the first tagged redfish from his Hobie kayak while fishing in Grand Isle. He will drive off in his new truck following the STAR Awards Banquet on October 22nd.
Arctic Ice and CCA of Louisiana Partner Again for 2016 S.T.A.R. Tournament
(Brookings, SD) For the second year running, Arctic Ice will be helping to sponsor the Louisiana Chapter of the Coastal Conservation Association S.T.A.R. Tournament for 2016. Lucky registered anglers and CCA Louisiana members have the opportunity to take home Arctic Ice as part of prize packages for the summer long tournament.
"Being a CCA sponsor and working with the S.T.A.R. Tournament has been great exposure for the Arctic Ice family of brands," says David White, VP of Marketing for Arctic Ice. "This gives us the opportunity to reach a very specific customer base that can easily benefit from one of the Arctic Ice brands. Maintaining cold or even frozen coolers in south Louisiana is a must when transporting fresh fish or simply keeping food and beverages cold on a hot day."
2015 STAR Announces Super Chevy Dealers Tagged Speckled Trout Division Winners
The final four winners of the 2015 CCA Louisiana STAR were announced on Wednesday afternoon. Since none of the 50 released tagged speckled trout were caught by a registered STAR angler, a random drawing was held from all tournament entries from this year.
Congratulations to the following winners!
Paul Mire of Luling
Gregory Berthelot of Baton Rouge
Bruce Birch of Grand Isle
Bucky Hebert of Youngsville
Each will take home a $2,500 tackle package.
Special thanks to the Tagged Speckled Trout Division Sponsors: Super Chevy Dealers of Acadiana, Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

Third STAR Tagged Redfish Caught in Mississippi Waters by Unregistered Angler
The third tagged redfish in the Mississippi Division of the 2015 CCA Louisiana Statewide Tournament and Angler’s Rodeo (STAR), was caught this past week by an unregistered angler. That means that 22 tagged redfish still remain in Mississippi waters.
Bert Pickard caught the third tagged redfish in Mississippi waters while fishing on the Pearl River. Pickard, the Dean of Athletics at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, unfortunately was not registered for the tournament and did not know anything about it. Pickard misses out on a Polaris Ranger 570s, sponsored by Hattiesburg Cycles and Hancock Bank.
“I was not familiar with CCA or STAR when I caught the fish,” said Pickard. “But I came home and did some research and joined. I want to tell everyone I know to join so this doesn’t happen to them!”
Second Hobie Kayak Angler Lands STAR Tagged Redfish
For the first time in CCA Louisiana STAR history, two prize-winning tagged redfish have been caught by kayak anglers. On Saturday while fishing the Casting for Kids Tournament in Leeville, Baton Rouge angler David Torregrossa reeled in the second tagged redfish of the tournament.
The first tagged redfish of the tournament was caught on May 30, by Baton Rouge kayak angler Jonathan Craft who won a 2015 Chevy Silverado, courtesy of the Super Chevy Dealers of Baton Rouge, Acadiana and New Orleans.
Kayak Angler Lands Prize-Winning STAR Tagged Redfish
Jonathan Craft of Baton Rouge, landed himself a brand new truck as he pulled in a 2015 CCA Louisiana STAR tagged redfish last Sunday from his Hobie Outback. After leaving the new kayak launch built by FOGI and CCA, just behind the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries facility on Grand Isle, Craft found the redfish when it bit on a live shrimp near the rocks.
Craft wins a new 2015 Chevy Silverado courtesy of the Super Chevy Dealers of Baton Rouge, Acadiana and New Orleans.
No stranger to STAR, Craft, who won the 2013 Fly East Division, knew to sign up early and did so in early March at the Louisiana Sportsman Show in Gonzales. He is also very thankful to an angler that caught the same fish last week but since she wasn’t registered for the tournament, she released the fish.
