CCA's Building Conservation Habitat Program, in partnership with Shell Oil Company, Terrebonne Parish Government, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, America's Wetlands and Entergy join together to rebuild the coastline in Terrebonne Parish with a "Floating Islands" Restoration Project.

What is it?
This project will create 1,000 to 1,500 ft. of floating islands. This is the first floating island restoration technology that has been used in this way. Each island mat is made from recycled plastics and will have 50-60 plants.

How Does it Work?
The mats, planted with native species, will grow a root system to the water bottom, trap sediments and grow toward and tie into the disappearing marsh. It will strengthen and flourish into a sustainable mass. It will also serve as a fish habitat. For more information on floating island restoration, click here.

Where is this going to happen?
Click on the links below to show where the project site is located.

Go to Google maps link and copy/paste in GPS co ordinance below for each restoration project location.

Project Area 1 –  Project base will be here at the Boat Launch area (A) project co ordinance below and (Green arrow) will be the sliver of marsh to be saved.
