Beaullieu family endows scholarship with CCA at ULL E-mail
LAFAYETTE — Officials of the Coastal Conservation Association of Louisiana announced today creation of a $5,000 annual scholarship at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in honor of Ted Beaullieu, Sr. of Lafayette and his lifelong commitment to conservation.

The annual scholarship to be awarded to a graduate student at ULL is made possible through a $100,000 donation by the Beaullieu family to the CCA Louisiana Foundation. The scholarship will be awarded to a ULL student pursuing a graduate degree in marine fisheries science or coastal restoration services.

“As a Louisianian, Ted Beaullieu has a deep appreciation for the wonderful coastal resources that make our state so unique,” said CCA Louisiana Executive Director Jeff Angers. “That appreciation led Ted to commit himself to a lifelong dedication to protecting those resources so that our future generations can enjoy them as much as we have. His vision and leadership have helped guide CCA’s conservation efforts in areas such as construction of artificial reefs and strengthening of laws that protect our marine resources.”

The purpose of the Beaullieu scholarship is to contribute to the understanding of coastal wetlands loss, conservation or restoration in Louisiana, and marine fisheries resource management in the Gulf of Mexico region. Prospective scholarship recipients will be nominated by faculty members of the respective departments at ULL. Scholarship recipients must have an undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 or better, and must be citizens of the United States and preferably residents of Louisiana.

Although retired from his refrigeration business, Ted Beaullieu is on the Advisory Council of Iberia Bank and remains active in a number of conservation activities, including Treasurer of Acadiana Bay Association as well as his membership on the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Coastal Restoration and Conservation. An active member of CCA for over 20 years, Beaullieu continues to serve on the organization’s state Board of Directors and of the Acadiana chapter’s board.

The Beaullieu family’s donation in honor of their father was made to the newly created CCA Louisiana Foundation and is the first major contribution received by the fund. The donation was made by the children of Ted and Deedie Beaullieu: Ted Beaullieu, Jr., Michelle Beaullieu Crouch, Patrick Beaullieu, Denise Beaullieu Sadler, Sue Beaullieu Bayard and Paul Beaullieu.

“The goal of the CCA Louisiana Foundation is to carry forward CCA’s commitment to marine conservation through scientific studies and other projects,” said Angers. “We anticipate other major donations will be made that will enable us to sponsor scholarships to promising graduate students at other universities in Louisiana.”

CCA Louisiana is the largest marine resource conservation group of its kind in the state. With over 35,000 members and volunteers, CCA Louisiana has been the leader in fisheries management and conservation issues since 1983. Visit www.CCALouisiana.com for more information.
