Weather conditions made for tough fishing this past Saturday in Calcasieu Lake in Lake Charles for the CCA Louisiana/CITGO Trout ShootOut.  Southerly winds wreaked havoc on the lake all week, making it very muddy.  Participants that did catch fish said the bites were few and far between.   

Even with the unfavorable conditions, the ladies made a strong showing this year, outfishing the men on the leader board.  One of those ladies was from the youth division, as young Kelsie Natalie released her first place trout back into Calcasieu Lake for future anglers to enjoy. Natalie’s top trout won her the $2,000 Educational IRA, a $100 Gulf Coast Tackle Gift Card plus a new rod and reel by Shimano.

"Any time you hold a tournament and are able to give kids educational IRA's,” Lake Charles CCA president Chas Drost said.” plus lifetime fishing licenses, and still return 50% of the fish back alive into the estuary, is a great success!" 

Over 50% of the fish weighed in this year were returned alive back into the water, thanks to our friends at The Aquarium of the Americas. See the complete Lake Charles Trout ShootOut results below.
